Tomorrow, yet another one of my friends is leaving town. I know D.C. is a transient city, but since I married into the D.C. 'burbs and am here to stay, it hurts even more when my friends leave. To sting the pain, I wrote a little diddy; read it to the tune of The Beverly Hillbillies theme song.
Come and listen to a story
'bout some friend of mine who said...
DC's just not for us
Our kids should be Southern bred
Then one day they decide
they should move
they should move
And I wondered at the news
if my heart would ever sooth...
Well, the next thing you know
Carrie + Chris are out of here...
Packed up everything they own
and little Carragan, so dear
Said Alabama is the place we ought to be
The stars still fall on Dixie
and it's close to Tennessee
and it's close to Tennessee
Huntsville, that is. Southern Living. Space shuttles.
So now it's time to say good-bye
to some of my best friends
And try to convince myself
the good times will not end
I hope they'll travel back again to this locality
To have a heapin' healpin' of my hospitality
The 'burbs, that is. Chain restaurants. Strip malls.
Y'all come back now. You hear?

I love your little ditty. Some of my goods friends are moving to Baltimore, and it makes me sad, too.
Awww! Carrie will be missed!! You're such a clever girl with your songs!
LOVE it!!!
Cute! I stumbled across your blog via Gwen In Love. I'm from East Tennessee, too.
