Last weekend, Dan and I went to an engagement brunch celebrating our friends, Katie and Kyle, who'll tie the knot this fall. For their gift, I made a Date Night basket....
I wish that I could take full credit for this idea, but I can't. Our friends Nicole + Matt did a similar basket for us when we were engaged, and I loved it - so I recreated it for someone else! This gift is perfect to take to a casual, pre-wedding party, but I think it would also make a great anniversary gift, or a post-baby gift for new parents.
I signed the card, "Whether you're on the couch, or on the town, don't forget to have Date Nights" and filled a basket full of goodies that will lend to either a great in-home date, and also a movie date at the theater.
Movie candies, movie tickets, and small bottles of wine (perfect for sneaking into the theater!) are all anyone needs for heading out to see the latest film, but if you want to stay in, pop some popcorn, light some candles and watch a dvd, this gift has your ticket for that, as well.
I also like this gift because you can create it on small or large budget. I had this basket already, along with the fun movie-themed napkins from my napkin bin, and the popcorn from my pantry. So, all I had to buy was the movie tickets, the DVD, candy, wine and a few other fillers. However, if you want to be very generous, you could also include a board game, gourmet foods, gift certificates for restaurants, tickets to concerts or a play, or if you're giving this gift to new parents, cash for a sitter. There are tons of possiblities for being creative, and making a gift like this very personal.
When you are going to a fun, low-key event or if you plan to attend several events for a couple, I think it's fine to stray from a couple's registry. I loved receiving this gift; making and giving it was even more fun!
