I Met Kate Middleton

Last night the British Embassy in Washington hosted an event- a welcome of sorts, as the new Congress begins, and somehow, I ended up on the guest list.  I didn't take any photos because, well, you just don't do that kind of thing even though it would have been so much fun to show you pictures of every beautiful detail. Instead, I'll just tell you about.
  • The party was held inside this elegant, stately ballroom:

  • The first person I met was named Nigel. The second person I met was named Nigel.
  • Inside the ballroom is the original Warhol painting of Queen Elizabeth.

  • In stark contrast to how Americans speak about our Country's leaders, every person from the UK that I met spoke with such enthusiasum and reverance about the Queen - it was refreshing!
  • The food was delish, and passed not from silver trays, but silver bowls - I found that interesting and attractive.
  • In addition to the bar, the wait staff roamed the crowd with bottles of wine + bubbles, topping off guests' glasses as they stood chatting - a very nice touch I will surely copy should I ever hire staff for a party I host.
  • The odds that I'll ever hire staff for a party in my non-ballroomed home are as off the charts low as my getting an invite to The Wedding.
  • Everyone is talking about The Wedding - even nerdy, wonky DC types.
  • The number of Kate Middleton wannabes in wrap-ish dresses last night:  4 (including yours truly)
  • Kate Middleton was there and she was the belle of the ball!
  • Kate Middleton, who works on Capitol Hill.
  • What, you thought I meant Catherine?

You are so bad!! You had me hanging on the edge of my seat! How cool would that have been? It would have been all over the news though..and since I'm a news junkie I would have already known :)

You are such a tease! I was waiting for the bootleg iPhone pic of what she was wearing. Dang!

Hope you're having a good week!

I was extremely jealous! I'll admit, I'm obsessed with The Wedding!

I was about to have a slight freak out here at my computer!! Ahh you had me going, too :) Sounds like a lovely event, even without meeting the future Mrs. Royalty herself.

Sounds like so much fun. I can't stop giggling about your plan to instruct your wait staff to discretely top off glasses of champers.

You stink! You had me so excited because I figured you would be the one person I know who would be lucky enough to meet Kate Middleton!
